The Top of the Desert

Several of the hikes in this section were originally hiked in 1982, when the author was researching an eastern Idaho trails guide. They are included here because they are worthy, desert character hikes. And besides, it will be years before "Hikeidaho.com" works its way through the author's southern Idaho and northern Idaho books (already published) to reach eastern Idaho again!
Maughan's A Hiker's Guide to Idaho has several hikes the author likes: Ramshorn Canyon, a west-flank Lost River Range hike up a canyon dranged by a great landslide; Aldous and Hancock Lakes, two southern-exposure lakes in the Centennial Range; Rocky Canyon and the Big Timber Creek loop in the Lemhi Range; and Corral Creek in the White Knobs. All these hikes alternate between sagebrush and Douglas fir.
The author still hasn't penetrated the Little Wood River wilderness area in the southern Pioneer Mountains. Maybe the summer of '99...
The author still hopes to add a scenic driving loop from Mackay to the Pahsimeroi Valley, then over Doublespring Pass to the Borah Fault, then back to Mackay.
He especially wishes to receive suggestions of worthy hikes in this high-country area.
