| Kipukas are areas of old lava (with soil) surrounded by new lava. In Idaho they are significant because they are usually ungrazed by cattle or sheep. Bearpaw Kipuka near Craters of the Moon. | A mix of grasses and mosses in old lava of the Neshraun area, Snaefellsnes peninsula. The grasses seem to benefit from the shelter and the increased rainfall coming off the small lava uplift. |
